RM Barney Poole Leadership Academy
Started in 2012 by PTAG President Dr. RM Barney Poole, PT, DPT, ATC, FAPTA, the Leadership Academy offers skills for PTs, PTAs and students to grow personally and professionally. During this 1.5 day program, attendees will understand how change and innovation requires leadership. Developing an effective leadership style is important even if you are not a formal leader - and developing leadership skills will help you become more influential every day in practice. Leadership styles vary from person to person and some leadership styles are more effective than others. What kind of leader are you? Do you know your preferred leadership style?
In this program, you'll start to discover how you lead and will be provided with ideas how to build your own leadership capacity. Emphasis will be on developing an effective personal leadership style as well as understanding how you can lead as a member of a group. Additionally, you'll be exposed to new ways of thinking and new approaches to innovation and change that you can apply to many professional situations in physical therapist practice. Participants will be encouraged to contribute to interactive discussions throughout the session.
Originally a mid-Summer program, the meeting is now part of IMPACT, the PTAG annual conference. In 2014, the Academy was renamed the RM Barney Poole Leadership Academy, in honor of Dr. Poole's work in creating this unique PTAG opportunity.
